Audience Worksheet

First, make a list of what excites you and what you are passionate about that you hope to feature on your site. This list could include things related to sports, to your profession, to hobbies, etc…. Try to think of people who would also be interested in these things.

Alternative Rock & Hip-Hop Music

Horror Culture, Acting

My Journey as a Creative

Alternative Fashion & Style

Second, choose three imaginary audience members who are also interested in what you wrote above. Write their “names” and what you imagine their personalities (likes/dislikes, occupation, education level, etc…) below, remember to think about your audience as a diverse group.

1. Ava Winter – Enjoyer of Emo culture, has tattoos, is into heavy music and creative expression. Currently in college for film.

2. Brady Patterson – Aspiring actor in New York, currently doesn’t go to school but is pursuing acting and media through connections and his friend group.

3.  Jonathan Sossi – Aspiring music artist who is looking to become a big name in the industry. Currently goes to high school and enjoys alternative music, and artists who don’t seem like the typical ‘Tik Tok’ artists we are constantly flooded with. Wants to find value through other artists.

After imagining your audience members, think about what your main claim (or argument) would be. What do you hope your audience will take away from your site? It can be something as simple as “Wow, this site is very professional” to something more specific like “Wow, this person really knows all about video games and is truly an authority.” Why does your main claim matter?

My main claim almost acts a Mission Statement for my brand. If someone is interested in what I am doing, by going to my website they should have a good visual of what represents me. This can be done through the colors, layout, graphics, logos, etc. For my audience, I hope that after viewing my site they will be more immersed in my world, and interested in being creative as well. I can show this by displaying my journey through blog posts potentially, behind the scenes videos, and other forms of media in which I show how anyone can be creative without needed huge budget items or tons of people and resources. My music touches a lot on mental health, so maybe by portraying this journey through conquering mental health and being the controller of your own mind this would inspire others who are feeling the same way.

Finally, go back to your WordPress theme. After thinking about your audience and argument, are you satisfied with the theme you chose? If yes, why? If not, what theme should you install instead?

There are a lot of themes available on WordPress, way more than any I’ve seen through GoDaddy or other website builders. Although I am satisfied with the theme I chose, I am interested in exploring the many options that WordPress offers in order to maximize the experience I can provide for my potential fans, or people stumbling upon my brand.
